Character grade wood flooring for a north Cornwall home
After meeting at the Home Show, we were delighted when the owner of this beautiful property contacted us to ask us to supply and fit new flooring.
This coastal-inspired home features a sunroom framed by large green oak beams from Goodlife Joinery, and we were tasked with providing our client with a beautiful mixed-width wooden floor which best matched these existing features, whilst complementing the rest of the house’s contemporary coastal decor.
Creating a sense of flow throughout the house and blending a contemporary and boldly-coloured kitchen into the naturally styled sunroom required careful consideration of the materials chosen for the project.
We offered design advice and provided the client with a number of samples with various finishes and grades, which helped them choose the final look and feel of their floor.
The wood we use is separated into three character grades at the sawmill, each offering a different overall look. For this project, the client opted for a full character grade in mixed-width planks, where the flooring retains the wood’s natural characteristics of knots and a natural colour variation. This choice meant that the existing characterful green oak could be carried throughout the rest of the ground floor.
The colour of the floor also needed to consider the existing colourful kitchen units, wood framing and a wooden staircase. After meeting with our design team and seeing a range of samples, the customer opted for a custom coloured wood which matched their exact needs.
The new wood flooring was quickly and expertly installed by our team of craftsmen, resulting in a quality finish with minimal disruption to the owners of the property.
The project resulted in a lovely oak floor which transitions perfectly between the contemporary kitchen and characterful sunroom.
